Liam Payne, the former One Direction star, has tragically passed away at the age of 31.

The pop sensation was on holiday in Buenos Aires with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy when he tragically fell from the third floor of a hotel. Liam, who shot to fame in 2011 as part of the globally successful band after being put together by Simon Cowell on The X Factor, alongside Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan.

It's been reported that Liam fell from the third floor of a hotel building in the Argentinian capital. Emergency services including police, firefighters and ambulances were spotted outside the hotel following the tragic incident.

Social media has been flooded with tributes for the 'Strip That Down' singer. It's been reported that police were called to the hotel due to reports of a man behaving aggressively, possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A body was discovered in an internal patio of the hotel.

Reports have suggested that Liam fell from the third floor of a hotel building in the Argentinian capital.

The police were called to the hotel by the hotel manager. It's believed that Liam fell from around 13 or 14 metres and suffered "very serious injuries incompatible with life."

While City ambulance service provider spokesman Alberto Crescenti said he had fallen around 40 metres and suffered “severe injuries which were incompatible with life.”

In a statement, the local ambulance manager told TN: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel.

"At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation."

In recent weeks, Liam had been documenting his travels in Argentina and attended the concert of his former bandmate, Niall shortly before his death. Liam was just 16 when he was first catapulted to stardom and became a member of the biggest boyband in the world, One Direction.

Tributes have started pouring in for the Strip That Down singer on social media, including from a host of famous faces including Paris Hilton and Miley Cyrus.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Paris Hilton wrote: "So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend."

The X Factor stars Jeward penned: "Sending strength to Cheryl and his son Bear and all the One direction Family RIP." Liam welcomed a son, Bear, with Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole in 2017.

Steven Bartlett also wrote on X: "I cannot believe what I'm reading about Liam Payne absolutely heartbreaking." Miley Cyrus also paid tribute: "rest in peace liam payne."

In the weeks leading up to his death, the pop star took to Instagram to share a photo alongside his former bandmates in a heartfelt but nostalgic nod to his time with the band.

In what sadly became his final post, the singer also paid a tribute to American documentary filmmaker, writer and TV producer Morgan Spurlock who himself, tragically passed away in May 2024.

Liam shared a photo of himself stood next to Morgan, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik.

Alongside the photo, Liam wrote: "Rest in peace Morgan Spurlock it was a pleasure working with you." Fans flooded the post with tributes following the shock news of his death. One fan said: "Please don’t tell me he passed away." Another added: "tell me it's not true." Someone else commented: "rip liam."
