Boris Johnson has been asked if he would star in BBC Strictly Come Dancing - and failed to rule it out. The former Prime Minister is currently on a tour to promote his new book Unleashed.

In one TV interview, he was quizzed on whether he would turn to reality TV. Asked by GB News' Camilla Tominey if the public can expect to see him on Strictly, Mr Johnson failed to rule it out.

Instead he dodged the question and said: "I wouldn't be very good." Elsewhere in the interview Mr Johnson said it was a 'terrible mistake' to oust him from No10.

He said he was 'absolutely convinced' that if he had stayed in power, the Conservatives would have won the General Election, Mirror reports. In an interview with ITV last week, Mr Johnson claimed he was living a life of 'blameless obscurity'" when asked if his political career was over.

Presenter Tom Bradby quickly hit back and said: "Blameless obscurity? Here in a television studio in front of millions?" The ex-PM continued: "Writing books and my chances of returning to politics, are as being reincarnated as an olive blinded by a champagne cork, locked in a disused fridge, decapitated by a frisbee."

In recent years, politicians have appeared on TV shows to boost their profiles. Former Health Secretary Matt Hancock appeared on ITV's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and Celebrity SAS: Who Dare's Wins. Fomer UKIP leader Nigel Farage appeared on I'm a Celebrity last year - a move which improved his popularity ratings among young people.

The Reform UK leader received £1.5million to go on the show and finished third after being repeatedly voted to take part in humiliating challenges. Former Labour MP Ed Balls, who is married to Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2016.

The ex-politician became known for a particularly memorable performance to Gangnam Style. He also featured on The Great Sport Relief Bake-Off and is currently a presenter for the ITV Good Morning Britain.
