Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll is buzzing with excitement as he teases a potential new BBC sitcom in the pipeline. The 69 year old Dublin-born comedian, who has polarised opinion since his show began in 2011, could be set to charm audiences once again.

Known for donning the garb of the beloved matriarch Agnes Brown, O'Carroll's creation has consistently drawn massive viewership, sometimes surpassing the 10 million mark, especially during its Christmas and New Year's specials.Fresh off his victory at this year's National Television Awards in London where he scooped up the Best Comedy award, Brendan is now gearing up to showcase his comedic flair with a fresh project for the Beeb.

The new series, titled 'Shedites', will feature comedy veteran Tommy Cannon in a prominent role. With the first episode already penned and reportedly well-received by BBC bosses, there's a buzz of anticipation. Speaking to The Sun, Brendan revealed: "It's using comedy to touch on men's mental health. The BBC loved the pilot. Hopefully it will be out in the fall.", reports the Mirror.

However, he remained tight-lipped about the exact broadcast date, and the BBC has yet to comment. This news breaks just after O'Carroll opened up about his complex relationship with television audiences. Despite a dedicated following for Mrs Brown's Boys, the show has faced criticism from some quarters, being labelled outdated and offensive.

Discussing the divisive reaction to his work, the star from Ireland remarked: "I'm the same with music and with comedy, it's subjective, you know? It really is. There's comedians that people find really funny who I then go, 'I don't really get that,' you know? They went through a stage where comedy started to get really snarky and people punching down, and I'd be looking and I went, 'I don't know...'".

"And then there's other guys, people who were around me go, 'Oh no, he's f***ing hilarious. Are you kidding me, he's f***ing hilarious! ' And I go, 'Well... Because it really is, it's what you call Marmite, that's what it is and people either love it or they f***ing hate it."

He further stated: "And you're gonna have to accept that that's the way it is. All I have to try and make sure is that the people who love it, I don't let them down, that I continue to be... I don't try and change to f***ing convert the others. I am what I am. The show is what it is, and we deliver it, and hopefully the audience agree, or that portion of the audience agree."

For fans eager for more laughs, the good news is that Mrs Browns Boys has recorded Christmas and New Year's Specials set to air during the 2024 holiday period.
