Households to get £75 paid directly into bank accounts

Households in the West Midlands have been told they'll get paid £75 paid directly into their bank accounts. Walsall Council said that residents who were receipt of council tax reduction (CTR) on December 1 on 2024 will receive automatic payments, which are set to drop into bank accounts in mid-December.

But the local authority that other residents are eligible for the payments too. The £75 payments are part of the Government's Household Support Fund (HSF), worth £421 million overall, which has been given to local authorities to support residents on low income.

The HSF had its funding extended until April next year. Walsall Council said anyone in receipt of CTR do not need to do anything in order to receive the £75.

Households will get a direct payment of £75 per child automatically. A spokesperson said: "Direct payments will be issued in mid-December 2024.

"We’ll pay this straight into your bank account. You don't need to contact us unless your bank details have changed since your last payment."

However, the payments are also available for residents who meet certain conditions. According to the council website, these are for anyone:

  • aged 16 or over and live in Walsall
  • suffering financial hardship. You will need to upload bank statements for all accounts you hold or your application will not be considered
  • responsible for payment of rent, mortgage, gas, electric or water bills for the property where you live
  • who holds combined household capital totalling under £6,000
  • who is a single applicant: you must have a total household income of under £25,000 gross. You will need to upload payslips to support your application
  • who are joint applicants: you must have a total household income of under £30,000 gross. You will need to upload payslips to support your application
