Liam Payne fans call for permanent memorial in Wolverhampton after hotel death

Liam Payne's fans are calling for a permanent memorial to the One Direction star in his home city of Wolverhampton. Millions of 'Directioners' across the world have been left devastated after news of his death emerged.

Vigils have been held in many locations, including in Wolverhampton, since he died on October 16. Now, fans want to honour the 31-year-old in a 'lasting way' with a permanent memorial.

They are campaigning for a 'structure or mural' to be built in the Black Country in the wake of his tragic passing. More than 2,700 people have signed a petition since it was launched on Tuesday, October 22.

Payne - who shared son Bear with Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole - died when he fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was staying at the CasaSur Palermo when he plummeted three floors.

The petition read: "The recent passing of Liam Payne has touched the hearts of many, not just the unbreakable community of One Direction fans, but people worldwide. As individuals who have been profoundly impacted by the loss of this amazing talent, we ask for a permanent structure or mural to be erected in Wolverhampton in his honour.

"Liam Payne's artistry has reached out and touched countless lives. His music was a harmonious blend of inspiration and comfort that resonated in the hearts of millions.

"His life and legacy deserve to be commemorated in a way that is as enduring as the light he imparted unto the world. By erecting a permanent structure in Wolverhampton, we are ensuring that Liam Payne is remembered for generations to come.

"This memorial will not only serve as a place to pay respects, but also a reminder of the incredible impact that individuals can make on the world. We propose that the city, partnered with local artists, can create a memorial that reflects the spirit and essence of Liam Payne - his roots, his musical journey, and his incredible contribution to the international music community.

"This act of remembrance can provide comfort and solace to those who have been touched by his life and passing. Let us honour Liam Payne’s legacy in a lasting way.

"A way that allows people from all walks of life to find a space to remember him and the joy his music brought into their lives. There is no better tribute to a man who dedicated his life to reaching people through his art.

"Please, sign and share this petition to support the erection of a permanent memorial for Liam Payne in Wolverhampton. Honour his memory and ensure his legacy continues to inspire."

It comes after fans also more than 126,000 fans signed a petition calling for 'Liam's Law' to be brought in. Campaigners want to bring in legislation to hold the entertainment industry accountable for the welfare of performers.
