BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Shayne Wards' famous fiancee and 'huge surprise' as second child was born

Strictly Come Dancing star Shayne Ward is currently competing on the dance floor each weekend with partner Nancy Xu, but first rose to fame on the X Factor all the way back in 2005. He went on to win the show and his first single That's My Goal was the third fastest-selling single of all time in the UK and was Christmas number one.

Others might know the star from his TV acting roles after he switched up his career. He famously played Aidan Connor in ITV soap Coronation Street for three years from 2015, and in 2023 began appearing in The Good Ship Murder.

But did you know his fiancee is also famous? Shayne, 40, is engaged to Sophie Austin, who is best known for playing Lindsey Butterfield in Hollyoaks from 2013 to 2016. The couple have been dating since 2016 and got engaged the following year.

They have two children together, Willow, seven, and their son, Reign, two. But they had a big shock at the birth of their son.

It was quite a surprise when Sophie gave birth as they had been told during the pregnancy that Sophie was having a girl. The ex-Corrie star shared the joyous news on Instagram, writing: "And then there were four! 11/06/22 we had a HUGE surprise! Not a baby girl we were expecting but a beautiful baby boy. We are so overjoyed and blessed that sir baby Ward has arrived."

Talking to HELLO! when they introduced Reign to the world, Sophie said: "He came out and Shayne first clocked it. Then the doctors came over and said: 'We've got some news.' I was thinking the worst, that something awful had happened, but they said: 'You've got a baby boy!' So I felt more relief than anything else."

Shayne added: "For nine months you believe you are having a girl. But a healthy baby is a healthy baby. Your initial reaction is 'Excuse me?!' but more than anything I just wanted the baby to be okay. And he absolutely was."

Shayne and Sophie revealed they were expecting their second child after facing difficulties conceiving. He detailed how they had resorted to IVF, only for Sophie to fall pregnant naturally.

Shayne will be hoping to secure a place through to Icons week in the Strictly Come Dancing results show tonight at 7.20pm.
