What is the weakness & strategy to beat Homo Fulquilo in Metaphor ReFantazio? The first human boss fight you face with a full party of Archetypes, this creepy bird-like boss with a man’s face is a lot tougher than it looks, needing you to optimize your team to win and destroy the crystal of Magla it’s guarding.

There is a lot to learn about Atlus’ latest JRPG, like the list of Metaphor ReFantazio voice actors, or whether Metaphor ReFantazio will be on Game Pass, but Persona fans will feel right at home knowing that many of the game’s boss’ and enemies have weaknesses to certain types of Magic or Strength attacks, just like those in the developer’s other games. This quick and easy Metaphor ReFantazio boss fight guide will tell you all you need to know.

What is Homo Fulquilo’s weakness in Metaphor ReFantazio?

The weakness of Homo Fulquilo is Ice. Using the Ice-type attack, Blizz, is the best option at this point in the game. While neutral to most other attacks like Fire and Slash, Homo Fulquilo is resistant to Wind-type moves.

To unlock Blizz, get the Mage Archetype to Rank 2 – more on our recommended Mage Archetype user below. Players who are short on MAG to unlock the Mage or want to inflict extra Ice damage can also go to the Young Merchant (Gallinago the Peddler) outside the nearby Magla Hollow to buy Ice Chunks. This disposable item inflicts 100 Ice damage on any enemy it’s used on, making it handy when it’s the turn of a party member who doesn’t have an effective attack to use in their moveset for a certain situation.

The best Archetypes to use against Homo Fulquilo

For the best and easiest chance of beating Homo Fulquilo in Metaphor ReFantazio, you need to use the following Archetypes for each party member:

  • Protagonist – Warrior, any rank
  • Strohl – Warrior, at least Rank 3
  • Grius – Mage, at least Rank 2

Homo Fulquilo has a strong early game moveset to utilize its two turn icons with each round, including Vitalja to boost its Attack and Defence by two stages, Hyper to concentrate and increase the power of its next Magic attack, and the Fire-type attacks Bot and Gabot.

Since the Seeker is weak to Fire, you’ll need to avoid using this Archetype altogether since Homo Fulqiolo can chain multiple attacks to wipe out an unprepared team quickly. So, switch out the protagonist’s original Archetype if you haven’t already.

The Warrior Archetype, however, is resistant to Fire, making Strohl’s the tank of this battle if you’ve kept using the Warrior he unlocked without switching out. By having the protagonist swap their Seeker for a Warrior as well, Strohl’s can get an Attack boost from its passive ability, ‘Heat Up.’ when there is another Archetype of the same lineage on the field.

You’ll have to rely on Medicinal Herbs, Medicine, and Revival Medicine in lieu of Seeker’s Dei healing skill, but with two party members resistant to Homo Fulquilo’s strongest attacks, you’ll have the high survivability meaning you won’t need to use many.

If you’ve got the MAG to spare, you can alternatively have the protagonist use a second Mage to deal more damage faster. However, this means you’ll need to spend a bit of time grinding to get it to Rank 2 to learn Blizz, and having a lower Defence means you might need to use more healing items throughout the battle.

Strategy to beat the Homo Fulquilo

When it comes to the actual battle against the Homo Fulquilo in Metaphor ReFantazio, the best strategy is just to have Grius use Blizz every turn to target its weakness, while Strohl adds supplemental damage with Diagonal Slash boosted by Heat Up, with both of them on the front row.

On the back row, the Protagonist can be on healing duty using any  Medicine, Healing Herbs, or Revival Medicine on allies when needed. In between uses, though, have the protagonist move to the front row to deliver extra blows of Diagonal Slash as well to chip away at the boss’ HP, which is especially needed after they use Vitalja to boost their defenses.

With two Warriors who are resistant to Fire, Grius will be the only party member who is vulnerable while he’s fighting as a bit of a glass cannon. Even with a slow and steady approach, defeating Homo Fulquilo on Normal difficulty should take no more than five minutes at the very most.
