Thomas Tuchel has taken the helm as the new head coach of England's senior men's team, with Champions League-winning colleague Anthony Barry announced as his assistant.

Liverpool native, Barry, boasts a significant career behind him; having started in Everton's youth setup, he built a strong playing portfolio with over 300 appearances at clubs including Chester City, Wrexham, and Accrington Stanley.

However, his prowess as a coach has shone through even more brightly, earning acclaim for his work under Tuchel at Chelsea - where they clinched the Champions League title - and securing the Bundesliga at Bayern Munich. Additionally, Barry brings to the table international coaching expertise gained with the Republic of Ireland, and with teams under respected managers Roberto Martinez in both Belgium and Portugal.

Barry, carrying the UEFA Pro licence, shared his enthusiasm: "For any Englishman in football, working with the national team is the pinnacle and I didn't hesitate when Thomas asked me to come and join him again. I know what a great place St. George's Park is and how much of an advantage it gives our England teams, and the support it gives to coaches."

He continued, expressing his eagerness to work with the squad: "This squad is very talented and have done so much to bring the country together, I look forward to meeting and working with them on this exciting project."

At 51, Tuchel takes the baton from Gareth Southgate, who steered England through momentous journeys to two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final and quarter-final. With Barry by his side, Tuchel will begin his tenure on January 1, ushering in a new era for the England team, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Interim head coach and former Everton midfielder, Lee Carsley, will remain at the helm of the Three Lions until the end of the Nations League group stage next month. Post that, he will resume his duties leading England's European Under-21 Championship title defence.

Tuchel expressed his honour in taking on the England role, saying: "I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team. I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already. To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting."

He added, "Working closely with Anthony as my assistant coach, we will do everything we can to make England successful and the supporters proud. I want to thank the FA, in particular Mark and John, for their trust and I am looking forward to starting our journey together."
