Joe Allen comes out of international retirement as Craig Bellamy's Wales squad announced

Wales take on Iceland and Montenegro in the Nations League during the upcoming international break

Joe Allen has been brought out of international retirement and has been named in Craig Bellamy's 25-man squad for Wales' upcoming Nations League fixtures.

Bellamy wants to build on his excellent start in the Wales dugout, which saw Wales come away with four points from their opening Nations League games against Turkey and Montenegro. Next up, Wales take on Iceland away and Montenegro at home.

Allen, who has 74 caps to his name, is making a return to international football after retiring from Welsh duty post the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Swansea City midfielder, 34, has been one of Wales' standout players over the last decade and, owing to injuries to captain Aaron Ramsey and Leeds United's Ethan Ampadu, has been asked to come in and bolster Bellamy's midfield options for the next camp.

Another notable name in the squad list is Rhys Norrington-Davies. The Sheffield United left-back is back in the squad after more than two years out due to long-term injuries. His Wales career was really starting to hit the ground when he suffered a nasty hamstring injury in October 2022.

His Premier League campaign with the Blades was also cut short last term when another hamstring injury struck him down in February, but he is now fit and ready to contribute.

David Brooks, Nathan Broadhead and Wes Burns are set to feature in a Bellamy squad for the first time after missing last month's matches.

Wales will head to Reykjavik to play Iceland on Friday, October 11 before taking on Montenegro at Cardiff City Stadium on Monday, October 14.
