Luke Littler is being tipped to surpass David Beckham's net worth by darts legend Dennis Priestly, as the teenager continues to take the sport by storm.

The young prodigy has had a grip on the sport since his stunning performance nearly a year ago when he reached the World Darts Championship final, only to be narrowly defeated by Luke Humphries. The continued success and exposure from this moment has only boosted Littler's finances, albeit in just a mere 12 months, reports the Mirror.

The 17-year-old pocketed a hefty £200,000 from that final appearance and added another £275,000 to his earnings after clinching his first major title at the Premier League in May. His winning streak extended through various Pro Tour and World Series events, and it shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Priestley, the darts legend and 1994 world champion, has now forecasted that Littler's financial trajectory could eclipse that of football legend Beckham if he maintains his dominance in the sport.

Speaking to Wayne Mardle on the Club 501 YouTube channel, Priestley said: "Luke Littler is still so young, and his career could go one way or the other," adding, "I just hope he's surrounding himself with the right people who will keep him grounded. If they can do that and he can remain at the top of his game for 10 or so years, then he'll be worth more than David Beckham."

Priestley also noted the challenges of staying at the pinnacle of any sport, referencing snooker greats Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry's decade-long reigns and Phil Taylor's exceptional near-20-year dominance in darts - which he described as not the norm.

Taking into account all his achievements, including brand endorsements and TV appearances, Littler's current net worth is just over £650,000. If the teenager continues his professional journey, he will soon be nearing the £1m mark.

Littler, a lifelong Manchester United fan, has a long way to go if he wants to match the staggering net worth of former Old Trafford star Beckham. Various business ventures and marketing opportunities have contributed to Beckham's estimated net worth of nearly £400 million.

In addition to his earnings from football, Beckham's post-career activities include bringing expansion team Inter Miami to the MLS, along with an ownership group. This opportunity was given to the 49-year-old as part of his lucrative LA Galaxy deal signed in 2007.

Beckham's brand deal with Adidas, which exceeded £100m and was signed in 1998, also added to his wealth. Other significant deals with Pepsi, Armani, Gillette, and his own whisky brand, Haig Club, mean that Littler has a steep hill to climb if he hopes to reach such astronomical financial heights.
