Strictly Come Dancing enthusiasts have been quick to rally behind Chris McCausland after a private comment he made to Dianne Buswell was revealed.

The BBC One dance show's audience witnessed an emotional weekend for the sharp-witted comedian, who traded his usual humour for a touching waltz with Dianne.

Chris, Strictly's first blind contestant, and Dianne danced to the Liverpool anthem You'll Never Walk Alone, paying tribute to Chris' cherished hometown and football club.

Their heart-rending performance received a standing ovation from the studio audience, with Dianne expressing how "so proud of him" she was.

The judges, including an emotional Shirley Ballas, were quick to commend the routine before awarding them a total of 35 points out of a possible 40 - their highest score in the BBC One dance competition to date, reports the Manchester Evening News.

During Sunday night's (October 20) results show, it was announced that Chris and Dianne had progressed to week six of Strictly's 20th-anniversary series, which is the show's annual Halloween special. They will perform a Samba to Stayin Alive' by The Bee Gees.

However, ahead of their new routine, Strictly has released a recap of the weekend's events in the ballroom, courtesy of the hidden microphones worn by the contestants and their professional dance partners.

As Chris finished his routine, the microphone caught a tender moment between him and his dance partner Dianne, where he inquired, "Did I do okay?" To this, she seemingly responded with approval, saying: "You did so good," followed by further adulation and motivation before they headed to host Tess Daly for feedback. The instantly emotional Chris then leaned on Tess Daly's shoulder.
