Grand Designs Kevin McCloud was visibly moved by a guest's heartfelt revelation following a cancer diagnosis. In a recent instalment of the popular Channel 4 series, Kevin made a comeback to our screens alongside Tony and Ara.

The duo had ambitious plans to demolish Tony's family home and create a 'wellness' sanctuary nestled in a woodland clearing close to Henley-on-Thames.

For Ara, previously immersed in the corporate sphere and now battling an autoimmune disease, the tranquil setting was essential for her recovery.

The couple had a huge project on their hands but they were willing to take on the job as Tony and Ara dived into the project, commencing the demolition and construction of their dream abode in 2019.

Tony's decision to self-manage the build and take on the physical work to save money, declaring he'd 'learn on the job', highlighted the complexities they faced, reports Devon Live.

However it was one moment that left Kevin emotional as Ara revealed later in the episode she had been diagnosed with cancer.

After battling through numerous challenges, the couple's four-year journey culminated in the completion of their home, with Kevin profoundly affected as he celebrated this significant achievement with them.

Tony and his wife Ara decided to knock down Tony's late parents' home to build a new home focused on health and wellbeing

On his visit, Kevin reflected: "I'm approaching Tony and Ara's house with a little trepidation. On top of the emotional, psychological, physical load this project has brought comes this latest news of Ara's cancer, which is so sad."

Ara continued: "Nobody could have predicted what was going to happen to me. Now the path is to do peace, contentment and gratitude. I have so much to be grateful for, I live in a little piece of heaven. It's heaven round here."

Moved by the conversation, Kevin responded emotionally: "It's my turn to get a bit tearful now, I'm in awe of the pair of you. Very tough and very wonderful of you to have got this far, I think it's just a great thing."

Grand Designs continues on Wednesdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
