BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt retorts 'I'm absolutely fine' as guest questions him live on air

BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt received an unexpected show of concern for his well-being from guest Jenny Eclair during the latest episode.

Charlie was presenting alongside Naga Munchetty on Thursday morning, and the pair were chatting to comedian and novelist Jenny about her new book and career highlights. The conversation was lighthearted, with Jenny leaving the hosts in stitches.

However, as the interview drew to a close, Jenny expressed her concern for Charlie's health, saying: "It's really lovely to see you both! I hope you get better because I can see you're a bit peaky."

Charlie had been coughing throughout the show, but he brushed off Jenny's concerns, insisting: "I'm absolutely fine!"

Jenny then turned to Naga for confirmation, asking: "He's peaky isn't he? " Charlie jokingly attributed his appearance to the messy studio, saying: "I'm just sorry you had to witness the mess!" reports the Express.

In a separate moment, Jenny revealed she was "embarrassed" to have worn the same scarf on the show as in a promotional photo displayed during the programme. Charlie playfully teased her, suggesting she wear the same outfit again in future appearances and even offering to keep the scarf in the BBC studios.

Jenny, blushing, quipped: "Can you imagine? I'm so embarrassed, not!"

Viewers at home also noticed this and took to X to share their thoughts. One viewer commented: "Jenny. Jenny! You were fab on morning TV just now. No need to apologise for your gorgeous, glowing orange scarf. Totally acceptable and often essential to regularly wear a comfy and flattering, reliable neckerchief! I am sure all OWLs would agree. Enhances your artiness!"

This follows an incident earlier this month when fans were upset with Charlie for what seemed like a cheeky dig at weather reporter Carol Kirkwood.

After spotting some technical issues, Charlie asked: "Are you going to fix this Carol? This has been going on for many hours now. Is anything actually happening? Are you going to fix it?

Carol responded: "Of course Charlie! Of course, we are. It is a big problem, it's not just one that can be sorted like that," she replied while snapping her fingers. However, viewers didn't appreciate Charlie's approach, with many calling for him to apologise.

One viewer was particularly irate, stating: "Absolutely disgraceful by Charlie on BBC Breakfast. There's a glitch on the app showing incorrect wind speeds. He shouted at Carol and demanded to know when it would be fixed. Embarrassing and petulant. He owes her an apology."

BBC Breakfast is on BBC One weekdays at 6am and on BBC iPlayer
