Prince William gives Kate health update as he travels without her
by Neil Shaw · Wales OnlinePrince William has given an update on his wife the Princess of Wales after she was unable to travel with him to South Africa as she continues her cancer treatment. He said the Prince of Wales said Kate is doing "really well" and he added that she has been "amazing this whole year".
William was speaking ahead of presenting his environmental Earthshot Prize in Cape Town, South Africa later today. The Princess of Wales has not travelled to South Africa and will instead be watching the ceremony at home in Windsor.
Prince William said Catherine will be "cheering me on" and said: "I know she'll be really keen to see tonight be a success."
First awarded in 2021, the prize supports sustainable, eco-friendly projects from around the world, with winners each receiving £1m.
The princess has been slowly returning to a light programme of public duties after finishing her chemotherapy treatment. Last month, the princess, 42, made her first joint official outing with the Prince of Wales since her cancer treatment ended in the summer.
The princess is hoping to make a public appearance at the annual Remembrance Sunday event at the Cenotaph this month in honour of the nation’s fallen servicemen and women – an important fixture in the royal family’s calendar.
She has also met aides to discuss staging her annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey in December.
The future Queen opened up in September about her hopes for the future and the toll this year has had on her family. She announced she had finished her chemotherapy course in a heartfelt video on September 9, in which she spoke about her experience while footage played of the Waleses and their children enjoying time together outdoors.
“Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long,” she said. The princess added she was “looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months”, but added her focus was “doing what I can to stay cancer free”.
