Mince pies may have been contaminated in the factory

Tesco 'do not eat' mince pie warning as they may contain glue

The alert comes as another major supermarket also issues a recall alert

by · Wales Online

Tesco has issued an urgent recall for some of its mince pies as they may contain dried glue. The supermarket is recalling Tesco Finest 6 All Butter Pastry Mince Pies because they may contain pieces of dried glue from the packaging, which makes them unsafe to eat.

The recall includes all packs with best-before dates of October 4 or 26 and November 2 and 10. Tesco is recalling the product and has issued a recall notice. This notice explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product.

A Food Standards Agency spokesman said: "If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to any store for a full refund. For more information contact Tesco Customer Service Team on 0800 505 555."

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific actions to be taken on behalf of consumers.

It comes as Waitrose is recalling Waitrose Easy to Cook Scottish Salmon En Croute with Cheese and Chive Sauce and Waitrose Easy to Cook Salmon and Sweet Potato Curry because they contain milk, mustard, soya and wheat (gluten), which are not mentioned on the label. This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to milk, mustard, soya and wheat or gluten.

If you have bought the products and have coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to milk, mustard, soya and/or wheat (gluten), do not eat them. Instead return them to the store from where they were purchased for a full refund. For more information contact Waitrose Customer Care 0800 188 884, Option 4.
