Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland fears he'll be 'victim' of exit curse

Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland has opened up about his fears of the notorious dance-off as he prepares for a new challenge this week.

The 47-year-old, who is the first blind contestant on the BBC show, has been performing exceptionally well in the competition. Last week, Chris and his professional partner Dianne Buswell delivered an emotional performance to Liverpool's anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone.

Despite scoring a commendable 35 points from the judges for his Waltz, comedian Chris is apprehensive about what's next. Discussing his upcoming Samba routine, Chris hinted at his concerns about potential pitfalls.

In his column for The Telegraph, the stand-up comedian expressed: "This week it's the Samba, and it's known for being absolutely bloody horrible to do."

"We have lost four of our fellow contestants so far during this series, and two of them have been lost to the dreaded Samba. It's Hallowe'en Week and so we are taking on the roles of two corpses that rise from their graves to perform to Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees."

Addressing his often criticised posture, particularly by judge Craig Revel Horwood, he added: "The thing that excites me the most about this, is that surely corpses can't be expected to have good posture can they? I am telling you all now that my poor posture is just me getting into character as a floppy old corpse honest, Craig!

"Decomposing Dianne and creepy cadaver Chris will be attempting the dreaded Samba for your spooky entertainment this Saturday, and I just hope we are not its third victim this series."

Chris also shared his journey on the show, noting an increase in confidence since its commencement in September: "I feel that my nerves have subsided somewhat as I have got used to dancing on live TV in front of millions, but there was certainly a spike last week, and that was down to the pressure I felt to do a good job for this song that means so much to so many."

In the latest update from the dance floor, former footballer Paul Merson and his partner Karen Hauer were the fourth pair to exit the competition after their final Samba performance to Carwash, losing out in the dance-off against JLS's JB Gill and Amy Dowden," reports the Express.

Strictly Come Dancing returns Saturday at 6:25pm on BBC One.
