Joe Biden’s ‘garbage’ gaffe: Letters to the Editor — Nov. 1, 2024

The Issue: President Biden calling supporters of former President Donald Trump “garbage.”

President Biden continues to show why the Democrats’ decision to oust him as their candidate was right (“Joe Voices Dems’ Contempt,” Editorial, Oct. 31).

His latest faux pas was to overreact to a comedian’s ill-advised joke about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of garbage” by calling all of former President Donald Trump’s supporters “garbage.”

In that one utterance, Biden not only destroyed a Democratic talking point, he also managed to alienate half of Americans at the same time.

And, as if that was not bad enough, he also destroyed the Harris campaign’s claim of being “inclusive.”

This is just a confirmation of former President Barack Obama’s warning, “Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f - - k things up.”

Whenever I think liberal politicians couldn’t be as bad as I fear, they prove me wrong.

While many Democrats view Republicans as “deplorable,” a lot of Republicans consider Democrats as nascent Republicans who have yet to figure out that government should work for the people, not the other way around.

Deplorables, gun toters and religious extremists.

Now, it’s “garbage.”

These are the labels offered by Democrat leadership for millions of Americans.

Instead of limiting criticism to the positions of opposition candidates, cheap shots are taken at the supporters.

Biden’s advanced age has taken what’s left of his unremarkable intellect.

I have no doubt, however, that he thinks Trump supporters are garbage.

After all, these are the people who support a man unafraid to call out Biden’s historic incompetence, duplicity, hypocrisy and corruption.

Biden and his fellow Dems never afforded Donald Trump any deference and continue to diminish his presidency as illegitimate.

No matter how Dems try to spin Biden’s latest gaffe, they have all given us plenty of reason to believe he meant every word of it.

Here we go: an old fool calling people garbage because they don’t like his policies.

I’m so glad that Biden is (almost) gone.

We have been a rudderless ship and a laughingstock to the world ever since he and Harris took over the White House.

Good riddance.

The Issue: The City Council weighs requiring companies to give employees paid leave for sick pets.

So the Big Apple’s City Council is considering whether companies should provide sick time to employees whose pets are either ill or recently deceased (“Gives you paws,” Oct. 26).

The proposed bill would even cover critters that are not officially designated as service animals.

So if your goldfish were to shuffle off this mortal coil, then sitting shiva for seven days might just be acceptable.

People used to say that nowhere topped California when it came to dreaming up silly laws and legislation.

But some City Council members now seem hell bent on staying ahead of the Golden State’s anti-business curve.

This is another “great idea” coming out of our a City Council: requiring companies to provide paid “pet sick leave” for employees.

What could possibly go wrong?

This is what our officials ponder as the city circles the sewer of crime and corruption.
