England have reached an agreement with former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel as he looks set to become Gareth Southgate's permanent successor, reports suggest.

After leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season, Tuchel is now thought to have accepted an offer from the FA to become England's first-ever German coach. Lee Carsley has been acting as interim manager for the last four games following Southgate's post-Euro 2024 resignation.

Tuchel guided Chelsea to the Champions League trophy in 2021. He had been in discussions with the FA - and it seems as though a decision has been made with who steps in to take charge moving forward. He had been eyed by Manchester United as a possible replacement candidate should Erik ten Hag have been sacked.

Of those already involved in the England setup, Tuchel has worked closely with Harry Kane. The current captain bagged 44 times in just 45 appearances under Tuchel last season, grabbing 12 assists.

Although the pair failed to win Bundesliga together, Tuchel has an impressive track record in knockout competitions. As well as winning the Champions League with Chelsea after just six months in the job - taking them from mid-table to European masters - he also reached the final 12 months earlier with Paris Saint-Germain.

At Chelsea, Tuchel reached three domestic cup finals, losing out on penalties twice to Liverpool in 2022. He won the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

When in France he was crowned Ligue 1 champion for his two full seasons before being sacked. Tuchel also won the German Cup and French Cup with Borussia Dortmund and PSG respectively.

In 2021 he was crowned the world's best coach. His appointment is set to come after England worked towards finding a permanent replacement for Southgate.

The former Middlesbrough midfielder led England to successive European Championship finals but failed to get his side over the line. Southgate resigned shortly after defeat to Spain in this summer's final.
