Inside Gary Neville's life - huge net worth, business empire and bond with dad amid career change

Gary Neville has opted to reduce his involvement with Monday Night Football to concentrate on providing Premier League insights for NBC Sports in the USA.

The former Manchester United defender, has been on MNF since the 2011/12 season—initially stepping in for analyst Andy Gray. He has shared the screen alongside Ed Chamberlin in 2014 and then partnered up with Jamie Carragher from the following year.

The audience, familiar with the dynamic between Neville and Carragher might find Neville's move quite unexpected, as their combination was well-received on air. His last stint on MNF was in mid-August, and viewers have seen Carragher without his usual sidekick since.

Sharing details on The Overlap, Neville explained to Rebecca Lowe: "So tomorrow, I'm expected to do set-pieces, whereas with Sky, on Monday Night Football, there are some set pieces which I prepare for - but now I don't do Monday Night Football anymore. I don't do set-pieces any more."

However, Neville could still drop in for special appearances, with the programme planning to shift towards having special guests, scaling down reliance on the Neville-Carragher partnership. When he does show up, it is anticipated that he will contribute more as a co-commentator rather than being a staple in the studio alongside Carragher and the rest of the pundits.

Sky Sports are reportedly finalising plans for Neville to broadcast from NBC's live New York studio for up to four weekends this season, including two appearances before Christmas. However, these dates are not anticipated to clash with major Premier League matches.

football.london has taken a deep dive into the life of the ex-footballer turned pundit.

Net worth

The Bury-born entrepreneur is the majority owner of Salford City FC, having purchased the club alongside other 'Class of 92' members in 2014 and guided their ascent to League Two.

Beyond football, Neville has built a substantial business empire, starting in property development in his early 20s. He now owns a series of hotels and townhouses, including Hotel Football, which boasts views of Old Trafford.

The Stock Exchange Hotel near Piccadilly Gardens is also under his ownership, and he plays a role in the St Michael's Project, aiming to construct apartments, hotels, offices and a high-end restaurant in Manchester city centre. In 2015, he established investment company Relentless, specialising in ventures across Manchester.

Additionally, Neville runs a property and construction consultancy firm named Zerum. E3 Creative, a digital creative agency focusing on online marketing and corporate strategy, also enjoys Neville's investment.

According to Companies House, his hotel business alone has amassed £20m in assets, and his property development company holds assets of £10.5m. Neville's financial acumen has seen his remaining businesses amass assets worth a reported £40m, and with his Sky role reportedly netting him over £1m annually, it's no surprise his net worth is estimated at around £70million.

Earlier this year, Neville even showcased his business prowess on BBC's Dragons Den as an investor.

Personal life

His personal life is equally fulfilling, having met his wife Emma Hadfield back in 2004 when she was working as a shop assistant in Middleton, Greater Manchester. The couple married in 2007 and are parents to daughters Molly and Sophie.

Emma has become a qualified counsellor and an accredited 'Menopause Coach.' At the end of last year, she launched an online support network aimed at educating women about menopause and offering guidance through this transition.

Emma had her own experience with early menopause diagnosis after her most recent birthday. This has fuelled her passion for supporting others.

"So proud of my wife Emma with the launch of her new community for women," Neville said of Emma's initiative.

Loss of his father

Tragedy struck the pundit in 2015 with the loss of his father, Neville. They shared a profound bond, with his father being a constant presence at Gary's matches for United.

Even years after his passing, Gary admits to occasionally dialling his father by accident, as his number remains top of his speed dial list. "I don't ring people. I don't ring my brother Phil every day, I don't text my sister every day, I don't ring my mum every day – but I rang my dad every day, three or four times a day," he revealed on The Diary of a CEO in 2022.

"He was the only constant in my life. I put his office next to our house because basically he looked after my stuff. I've still got him at the top of my favourites in my speed dials – I'll never move him. I go to ring my mum and you press 'Dad' and it freaks me out and makes me well-up a little bit."

"He was at every single one of my games. I waved at my dad 602 times. I couldn't settle until I had found him."
