Arne Slot makes 'biased' admission as Liverpool head coach slams Chelsea decision

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was left aggrieved by some of the decisions in his side's 2-1 win over Chelsea.

The west Londoners posed the first real test of the Dutchman's tenure at Anfield, but still couldn't capitalise on a below-par performance from the Reds. Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones were on target to consign Enzo Maresca to his second Premier League defeat since taking charge himself this summer.

Liverpool had three big penalty shouts with one being given by referee John Brooks, but one of the main talking points from Anfield was Robert Sanchez's challenge on Jones - which was initially awarded as a penalty. However, following the intervention of VAR, that decision was overturned.

Nicolas Jackson restored parity following the restart - but that was short-lived as Liverpool midfielder Jones dived in to meet a cross ahead of the Chelsea goalkeeper to secure a seventh top-flight win for Slot already.

Speaking during his post-match interview, the Dutchman felt that some of the decisions from the referee were dubious. Slot said: "The most important [thing], if you want to have a chance of winning a match like this against Chelsea, is work as hard as we did.

"In the meantime, we created a few very good chances and, in my opinion, if I'm being biased, a little bit unlucky with decisions being made. It's not important anymore because we won but it could've been a crucial decision for the VAR to overturn the penalty which I couldn't understand.

"If the referee looks at it, it looks that VAR shouldn't have intervened but, if you're me, it looks like a penalty. Then there's the red card, yesterday [on Saturday night in the Arsenal match] that was a red card, big decisions because red cards and penalties impact the game a lot.

"In the end, a good win against a good Chelsea side."
