Jurgen Klopp's secret exit clause that allows him to leave new role for dream job

Jurgen Klopp has been out work since leaving Liverpool in the summer but having been appointed by Red Bull, it appears the German already has his eyes on his next role

Jurgen Klopp is so keen to take the Germany job that he has a secret exit clause in his new deal.

The former Liverpool manager has been appointed as the new Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull. He is due to start the job in January and has penned a long-term deal.

But it appears that he has one eye on his next job. Klopp has regularly been linked with a move to take over the German national team, and that was indeed the case after he left Anfield in the summer.

It appears that Red Bull would also be willing to facilitate a switch should the opportunity arise at some point in the future. Sky Sports claim that Klopp has an exit clause written into his contract that would allow him to leave specifically for the Germany job.

Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is currently in the role and has a contract until 2026. Germany icon Rudi Voller suggested that Klopp would be an ideal replacement should Nagelsmann leave.

“I don't know what Jurgen would like to do again,” he said. “But if Julian Nagelsmann were to decide at some point that he would rather coach a top club in Europe or in Germany again - of course, then there is no way around Jurgen Klopp if he wants to.”

Klopp replied: “Everyone hopes that Julian Nagelsmann will do this for much, much longer than 2026. I would be reluctant to talk about football today because there is nothing to say. Rudi Voller is a very nice guy. He was put in the situation where he had to talk about it.”

Klopp has never hidden his admiration for the role. Speaking during his final season at Liverpool, he said: “The job of national coach is and would be a great honour – there’s no question about that.

“The problem that stands in the way of the whole thing is my loyalty. I can’t just leave Liverpool now and say I’ll take over Germany for a short time. That doesn’t work and the request isn’t even there. If I’m supposed to do that at some point, then I have to be available and I’m not currently. I have a responsibility towards the club.

“Basically, it’s an interesting job. But I don’t know yet whether I’ll do something completely different after I leave Liverpool. I want to keep my options open.”
