West Yorkshire Police say officers spotted a speeding car in Bradford at around 8.25pm, turned around to chase it but the motor was 'out of sight.' They then came across Kayden on Halifax Road, who was believed to have been hit by the suspect vehicle, which had failed to stop at the scene.
The teenager was then taken to nearby Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), where he is currently in a "critical condition" and in a coma, due to his injuries. Kayden, who is autistic, also had surgery twice and one of his legs has been amputated up to his thigh.
Michaela said: "Kayden is still in hospital, in a coma and still in a critical condition due to his injuries. He’s been in theatre twice for major life changing operations, which one led to him having to have his leg off up to his thigh. Carole’s family and friends all count there lucky stars Kayden is still here today. However he will have to be in hospital for weeks until he recovers it’s going to be one hell of a journey for his family and friends."
A family friend today said Kayden's mum Carole Womersley is by his side in hospital. They said: "Kayden is currently in an induced coma in the LGI with his mum Carole by his side."
