TV star Jeremy Clarkson has reportedly denied burning an effigy of Donald Trump at a Bonfire Night celebration just before the politician was elected President in the US.

Jeremy, 64, sparked outrage on social media on Tuesday night when he shared a photo of a bonfire at his pub the Farmer's Dog in Oxfordshire with his followers on Instagram. It showed an effigy engulfed in flames and he wrote in the caption: "Bonfire night at @thefarmersdogpub."

The effigy, which has been compared to President Trump, 78, appeared to be dressed up in a suit and sported a red tie. The former Top Gear host shared the post just hours before it was announced that Trump had won the presidential election. He had been the nominee for the Republican Party, whilst Kamala Harris, 60, had been the Democratic Party's nominee.

Some of Jeremy's followers weren't impressed with the effigy amid the comparisons to Trump. One replied: "Extremely disappointed." Another said: "At this point Clarkson has clearly lost it." A third wrote: "This is absolutely rubbish and astonishing." Another said: "Sigh. This is disappointing."

It's however since been reported that Jeremy later denied that the effigy represented Trump. According to the Independent, he denied the claim in a post on Wednesday in which he shared an article about the bonfire. He's quoted as writing in it: "Utter horse s***. If I was going to burn someone contemporary on our fire, it would be someone closer to home. But it was actually just Guy Fawkes."

Jeremy's original post came shortly before he marked Bonfire Night with an announcement about the future of his Prime Video docuseries Clarkson's Farm. He confirmed on Tuesday night that the show will return for a fifth season.

Three seasons of the show, which follows work on his farm Diddly Squat Farm, have been released so far. A previously announced fourth season is yet to be released and a joint post, shared by Jeremy and Prime Video, confirmed on Tuesday that the fifth season is now "officially in production".

The post included a clip of Jeremy stood outside in front of a light display that read '5' in the sky. He said: "Over the years, bright lights in the sky have been used to make many important announcements, the birth of the baby Jesus, for example. But tonight, they're being used to make an announcement that's even bigger than that. Season Five of Clarkson's farm is coming."

Alongside the video, he teased in the caption that it "felt right" to share the news of a fifth season on Bonfire Night given the date. The caption read: "It's the 5th November ... this just felt right. Clarkson's Farm S5 is officially in production."
