Top Tech: Best Amazon gadgets on sale in early Prime Day deals

Today's edition of the Mirror Top Tech series – where we offer our top picks of gadgets and tech deals – is all about Amazon as TV writer Jake Hackney chooses his favourite discounted items ahead of the Big Deal Days sale

Welcome to the latest edition of our Top Tech series, where our tech, TV and shopping experts highlight the best deals we’ve found this week. Twice a week, we will be showcasing the best products we believe are worth your money and how to save with some big discounts.

This instalment is all about Amazon, as the retail giant is gearing up for its latest site-wide sales event, Prime Big Deal Days, which will see prices slashed on thousands of items exclusively for Prime members on October 8-9. Shoppers can access the sale with an Amazon Prime subscription, which costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year, but if you’re not already signed up, don’t worry, because you can still get the same deals by signing up for an Amazon Prime 30-day free trial.

As well as access to Big Deal Days bargains, Amazon Prime members get next day delivery on eligible Amazon purchases, free streaming on Amazon Music Prime, Deliveroo Plus and free delivery on HelloFresh orders for a year. There’s some big brands taking part in the sale, including Shark, Microsoft, Braun, Philips, Ghd and plenty more, as well as up to 50 percent off Amazon’s own Echo devices. But until then, read on for our favourite early tech deals ahead of the Big Deal Days sale.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K

Amazon’s flagship streaming device has seen a big price drop to £39.99, a £20 discount and a third off the usual £59.99. The Fire TV Stick 4K can transform a standard, ‘non-smart’ TV into a smart TV by providing access to countless films and shows on the biggest streaming apps like Prime Video, Disney+, Netflix, BBC iPlayer and YouTube, as well as music and games.

This latest model offers 4K Ultra HD streaming with immersive Dolby Atmos sound and support for Wi-Fi 6, which means you can enjoy smooth 4K streaming even when other devices are connected to your router. It comes with an Alexa Voice Remote, allowing you to use your voice to search and launch programmes from across different apps, while preset buttons take you to your favourite apps in an instant.

This model also features power and volume buttons so you can control the TV with a single remote and allows you to control compatible smart Alexa devices around the house. It offers a plug-in-and-play set up; simply insert it into your TVs HDMI port, turn on the TV and connect to WiFi to get up and running. Amazon Fire Max 11

Amazon’s Fire Max 11 – touted as the brand’s ‘most powerful’ tablet – has seen a huge discount down to £129, almost half the usual £249.99. It’s a great budget-friendly option for shoppers in the market for a new tablet that allows you to browse the web, watch videos, listen to music and much more.

If you are watching the latest blockbuster or must-see series, its 11” screen has 2.4 million pixels so you can see every detail. This model boasts 64GB of storage so you can pack it with your favourite apps, music and photos and has 8MP front and rear cameras ideal for video calls and 1080p HD video recording.

It has a slim aluminium body that’s ‘as thin as a pencil’ and crafted with strengthened glass, with Amazon claiming it’s ‘three times as durable’ as the 10th generation iPad. It also boasts a long-lasting battery that can run for up to 14 hours so it’s ideal for use at home or on-the-go.

Amazon Fire TV 2-Series

For those in the market for a new smart TV that won’t break the bank, Amazon has slashed £110 off its Fire TV 32” 2-Series at £139.99. The device lets you watch your favourite films and series in 720p HD with support for Dolby Digital Audio, while the 40” model offers higher video quality at 1080p.

The Fire TV consolidates all your viewing into one place as it gives easy access to streaming apps like Prime Video, Disney+ and Netflix, as well as free entertainment on YouTube and Freevee. The TV also comes with an Alexa Voice Remote to find your favourite content and control smart home devices.

Amazon offers two models of the 2-Series; the 32” is reduced to £139.99 and the 40” is £199.99 – down from £299.99. The budget TVs are ideal for smaller spaces like a second bedroom or children’s room and have racked up hundreds of five-star reviews, with shoppers saying they offer ‘fantastic picture and sound for the price’.

Shoppers should note the 2-Series doesn’t support 4K viewing. For those looking for a 4K TV, Amazon offers the slightly more pricey Fire TV 4-Series from £229.99.

Amazon isn’t the only retailer slashing its prices this week, as Debenhams is offering up to 70 percent off a range of tech, including £162.71 off this 92” Wall/Ceiling Mounted Projector Screen for £59.29 and £70 off this LG Bluetooth Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer for £129.99.
