Boxing supercomputer picks clear winner in Anthony Joshua vs Dubois fight

Daniel Dubois will defend his heavyweight world title against Anthony Joshua tonight but will start the fight as the underdog

A boxing supercomputer has predicted Anthony Joshua will KO Daniel Dubois and be crowned world champion for a third time.

The heavyweights collide at Wembley in front of 96,000 fans tonight with Joshua starting as the bookmakers' favourite despite being the challenger. The Olympic champion will become a three-time heavyweight ruler if he beats Dubois, joining Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield, Vitali Klitschko, Lennox Lewis and Michael Moorer in the exclusive club.

And a computer put together by Grosvenor Sport had given Joshua and almost 80 per cent chance of winning the fight - and also backed him to win by stoppage to ensure there are no doubts. Dubois, meanwhile, has just over a one in five chance of beating Joshua and retaining his title, according to the calculations.

Of all the simulations, there was a stoppage on 733 occasions and the fight went the distance on just 267 occasions. A spokesperson for Grosvenor Sport said: "Anthony Joshua certainly has the pedigree and the experience for a world heavyweight title fight, having been in 12 world title fights already in his career and having headlined Wembley twice already as well.

"However, Daniel Dubois is certainly a live dog in the fight and has the power to trouble Joshua if he can let his hands go and land his big right hand. Having sparred the former two-time heavyweight champion before, the 27-year-old is unlikely to be shocked by what he faces on September 21. It promises to be an intriguing night, with plenty of excitement and drama in the capital, and the potential for a devastating ending."

Joshua has fought back from losing successive fights to Oleksandr Usyk to win four bouts in a row and move within two fights of becoming the undisputed champion. He saw off Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius and Otto Wallin last year before knocking out former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in March. Should he defeat Dubois, Joshua is expected to face the winner of Usyk's rematch with Tyson Fury for all four belts inn 2025.

Dubois, meanwhile, has also put his career back on track, first after losing to domestic rival Joe Joyce, and then to Usyk last summer. Wins over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic propelled him into world title contention with his latest win seeing him crowned interim champion. He was then upgraded to full champion when Usyk gave up his IBF belt to pursue his second fight with Fury.

Both Fury and Usyk will be ringside at Wembley tonight along with 96,000 fans as they take in their future opponent. Fury and Joshua have been rivals for a decade but have so far failed to meet in the ring.
