Manchester United are reportedly lining up Sporting Lisbon starlet Geovany Quenda after learning they won't able to sign his team-mate Viktor Gyokeres until next summer.

Ruben Amorim is preparing to leave Sporting for Old Trafford next week and is being linked with a handful of the club's top players - with Gyokeres strongly tipped to join him in Manchester after starring in the 4-1 win against Manchester City.

The Swedish star netted a hat-trick against Pep Guardiola's side to leave fans blown away, though Amorim has already insisted he will not be able to raid the Portuguese giants for any players this January.

Gyokeres is understood to have a release clause of £83million and will likely not leave until next summer, so United are now turning their attentions to 17-year-old winger Quenda, who started against City, according to MEN.

Quenda played 85 minutes against Pep Guardiola's side and grabbed an assist on an impressive all-round display - confirming his status as one of Portugal's brightest talents.

He has started eight of Sporting's 10 league games under Amorim so far, showcasing his maturity for a player of his age - scoring his first goal of the season last month. That helped him make history as he became the club's youngest scorer in the league, beating Cristiano Ronaldo.

The report suggests United have been monitoring Quenda - who has been compared to Bukayo Saka - since the start of the season since being given his debut by Amorim in August.

Quenda started in Sporting's 4-1 win over Manchester City and impressed as he grabbed an assist

Quenda joined Sporting aged 12 and has already been trusted by Amorim to sit on the bench last season aged just 16. The 39-year-old coach is clearly a huge admirer of the young talent and would be tempted to bring him to United given the opportunity.

United have a four main wingers at the club but only Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo have shone this season, with Marcus Rashford struggling and Antony barely playing so far.

Quenda can also play at wing-back - which would suit Amorim as he is expected to set up his classic 3-4-3 formation at United when he joins on November 11.

Reports have indicated that Quenda has a release clause of £84m and Sporting would not be willing to accept anything less - and like Gyokeres United would have to wait until next summer to snap him up.
