Man Utd chief makes telling two-word statement to fans on Ruben Amorim's arrival
Manchester United appear to have completed a deal to bring Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon to be the club's new head coach after Erik ten Hag's departure
by Scott Trotter · The MirrorINEOS chief Sir Dave Brailsford has seemingly confirmed a deal to bring Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford is done.
Brailsford was in attendance as United came away victorious in their first game without Erik ten Hag. Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken the reins on an interim-basis and watched his team come away 5-2 victors in the Carabao Cup against Leicester City.
Brailsford's arrival at the ground saw the ex-British Cycling boss greeted by supporters. Among requests for a photograph, the 60-year-old appeared to be asked for an update on United's managerial search on Wednesday night.
One supporter caught the moment on video ahead of the win over the Foxes. In the clip, Brailsford can be heard saying 'yeah, done'. That saw those standing closest claim to fans around them that the answer was in relation to appointing Sporting CP head coach Amorim.
Van Nistelrooy could yet extend his run as United boss however. Despite United reaching full agreement to land the former Benfica midfielder, he may not arrive until the international break.
The Telegraph report that United and Sporting's €12million (£10m) agreement has seen the clubs negotiate around his 30-day notice period. It would see Van Nistelrooy in charge for games against Chelsea, PAOK and Leicester City before Amorim arrives in time for the trip to Ipswich Town.
For now, Van Nistelrooy is happy to offer his assistance. United will hope to back up the cup performance with outings that lift them from 14th in the Premier League and see three points for the first time in the Europa League.
Former PSV manager Van Nistelrooy simply wants to offer what is best for the team he scored 150 goals for. The Dutchman has even offered his services for the future having only taken on a role at the club over the summer.
"I came here as an assistant to help the club," said Van Nistelrooy after the Carabao Cup win. "Now, in this role, I’m helping as long as needed. In the future, in any capacity, I’m here to help the club further to build towards the future that’s what I'm here for.
"I’m here to help and serve and give my everything for the club in any capacity, with so many people here around me that want the best for the club and that will never change."
