Wynne Evans' new beau could be a key part in the star's Strictly success.

The Welsh opera singer, who shot to fame for his iconic role of Gio Compario in the Go Compare adverts, impressed judges after transforming into Mrs Doubtfire for his cha cha to Pap's Got A Brand New Bag. The 52-year-old, along with pro dancing partner Katya Jones, received a respectable 30 points - escaping the dreaded elimination. It's a noticeable improvement from their first routine, where the pair only scored 26 points for their Samba routine.

The dynamic duo are slated to perform the Tango to ABBA's hit Money, Money, Money after the show unveiled its brand new theme: Icons Week. But away from the glitz and glam, Wynne's life has been filled with heartache.

The celeb has opened up about how a painful marriage breakdown pushed him into the 'worst depression' he'd ever experienced - a driving factor in him comfort eating and ending up weighing 23.6 stone. "I was doing a daily radio show where the feel of it is upbeat and keeping people in a good mood and cheering up the nation," he told WalesOnline.

"The strap line of my show is, 'cheering Wales up by one o'clock,' but I was going through the worst depression, clinical depression... I couldn't see a way out. I couldn't see a way of ever being happy again."

However, after seeing a therapist and getting described anti-depressants, Wynne started a healthy-eating regime and shed a whopping 5.5 stone in a matter of months. Now rumoured to be dating events manager and fitness fan Liz Brookes, 50, the star is said to be receiving support from his new lover.

According to the Sun, Liz has been an essential part in Wynne's weight loss journey by helping him go on runs. "Wynne and Liz met at an event and are taking things slow, but he's excited about where the relationship might go," a source said. "He is in a much better place now than when his marriage ended. It's like night and day — and he is so happy."

It's clear Liz will be cheering Wynne on from the sidelines as he continues to compete for the acclaimed Glitterball Trophy. If you've been affected by any of the issues raised in this article, help is available. Click here to find your nearest resource.
