Erik ten Hag and Jose Mourinho had to settle for a point on Thursday night

Erik ten Hag makes surprising Man Utd claim as Jose Mourinho names his next job

Christian Eriksen's goal was not enough to hand Manchester United victory over Fenerbahce in the Europa League as Youssef En-Nesyri ensured Jose Mourinho's side shared the spoils

Erik ten Hag insisted Manchester United can be satisfied with their Europa League campaign despite failing to protect a lead for the third successive game.

Christian Eriksen fired United into a 15th-minute lead to briefly silence a seething Sukru Saracoglu Stadium but Jose Mourinho ’s side came storming back to equalise just after the break through Youssef En-Nesyri’s header. Mourinho was then sent off for his furious touchline reaction when referee Clement Turpin failed to give a penalty for Manuel Ugarte challenge on Bright Osayi-Samuel - and later offered his services to any struggling Premier League club because it would mean he wouldn’t be involved in European football.

United are now 21st in the table and Ten Hag insisted: “We have had two tough away games at Porto and now Fenerbahce, so it is not a bad point. Of course when you take the lead then drawing the game shouldn’t happen - and we had chances to make a second goal.

“We are disappointed not to win. At Old Trafford we now have to win games.

“But Fenerbahce are a very good club, with very good fans and some good players. This game would be a very good final.

“We should keep the ball better than we did in the first half. We should have scored more goals but to be honest they also created good chances. They gave us some problems.

“But we want to win. We want to win every game.”

Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands after Fenerbahce were denied a penalty vs Man Utd

Mourinho insisted that his team deserved better - and suggested that only an incredible double save by United keeper Andre Onana from En-Nesyri denied the Turkish club a famous victory.

Mourinho said: "The best thing I can do when I leave Fenerbahce is go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competition. So a club at the bottom in England, who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go. I don’t want to speak any more about it. If I appeal the red card I will get six months.

“I thought my team was fantastic against a team that is much better than anything we will face in Turkey. The two saves by Andre Onana from En-Nesyri in the first half were decisive in the result.”
