Erling Haaland's response to gruesome Man City injury in Newcastle draw sums him up
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland failed to get on the scoresheet during his side’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle but his efforts will not have been helped after picking up an injury
by Daniel Orme · The MirrorErling Haaland picked up a nasty-looking ankle injury against Newcastle - but still continued on at St James’ Park.
The Norwegian was named in the starting line-up for the trip to the North East. But he endured a frustrating afternoon as his six-match scoring run came to an end.
His efforts will not have been helped after sustaining a painful-looking injury during the first-half of the game. He came together with Newcastle defender Dan Burn and attempted to shield the ball.
While Haaland was victorious in that personal battle, Burn stood on the back of the striker’s ankle, leaving a huge tear in his sock and a cut across his Achilles. Blood started to appear across his ankle throughout the first-half.
Luckily, he was fine to continue and played the full 90 minutes. Unfortunately, he was unable to find a winner for his side.
City had taken the lead at St James’ Park through defender Josko Gvardiol. Pep Guardiola’s side were pegged back in the second-half as Anthony Gordon scored a penalty after being taken down by Ederson.
The City boss will certainly hope that Haaland is fit to play over the coming weeks. His side are back in action in midweek in a Champions League showdown with Slovan Bratislava.
They then host Fulham at the Etihad Stadium ahead of the second international break of the campaign. City already have a host of players restricted to the sidelines so will be hopeful that Haaland’s injury is only short term.

Spanish midfielder Rodri has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury he picked up vs Arsenal. Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne is also sidelined and missed Saturday’s clash with Newcastle, while Oscar Bobb is still out.
Speaking after his side’s draw at the weekend, Guardiola said: "They had moments in first ten minutes and after their goal, but in general we played really good.
"We made bad decisions at the last minute to make it 2-0. It is always difficult here with their physicality and they defend so deep. We had chances but [Nick] Pope was brilliant so we take the point.
"When we scored we played better. We make a mistake and after they play better. But then we take the game again and had chances to win it.”
