Music by John Williams documentary explores the Star Wars composer's life and career

Disney+ looks back the prolific career of the man behind the music of Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park and so much more

Legendary composer John Williams is the focus of a new documentary that explores his more than 70 year career. Available to stream now, Music by John Williams celebrates the man behind some of the most iconic music in all of cinema.

As per the official synopsis, the film offers a fascinating and insightful look at Williams‘s prolific life and career, from his early days as a jazz pianist to his 54 Oscar nominations and five wins. The documentary takes an in-depth look at his countless contributions to film, including many iconic franchises, as well as his music for the concert stage and his impact on popular culture, and features interviews with artists and filmmakers whose lives have been touched by his timeless music.

Music by John Williams is streaming now on Disney+, which fans can join for £4.99 a month for the Standard with Ads plan. Disney+ members can save up to £25.98 by paying for a year up front on the Standard or Premium plan, bagging the equivalent of 12 months for the price of 10.

Williams, 92, is the man behind some of the most recognisable music in cinema with a career that’s spanned seven decades and more than 120 films. Many of his most iconic scores are those featured in the films of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, including Jaws, Jurassic Park, E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, Indiana Jones and Star Wars.

He also scored the first three Harry Potter films, with his music – most notably the beloved Hedwig’s Theme – being used throughout the rest of the series. As well as winning 26 Grammys, William‘s career has seen him become the only person to earn an Oscar nomination in seven different decades, having picked up his first nod for 1967’s Valley of the Dolls.

He is the second-most nominated person in Oscars history, behind only Walt Disney, and currently holds the record for the most nods for a living person. Music by John Williams is a collaboration between Lucasfilm Ltd, Amblin Documentaries and Imagine Documentaries, with Spielberg, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Kathleen Kennedy serving as producers.
