Cristiano Ronaldo told he 'would be welcome back at Man Utd' under Ruben Amorim

Cristiano Ronaldo’s last stint at Old Trafford ended tumultuously, but one former Manchester United marksman still thinks he would be greeted with open arms should he wish to return

Cristiano Ronaldo would be welcome back at Manchester United under new boss Ruben Amorim, says Teddy Sheringham.

The prodigal son made a groundbreaking return to Old Trafford in 2021, having originally been scouted by Sir Alex Ferguson as an 18-year-old and morphed into a world-beating winger.

Just 18 months and one explosive, scathing interview with Piers Morgan later, Ronaldo burned bridges with the Red Devils and departed for the Saudi Pro League and Al Nassr – where he is now the competition’s poster boy and already has a record-breaking Golden Boot under his belt.

Despite the animosity that has shrouded the relationship between the 39-year-old and United in the past, the club’s former striker Sheringham believes that all paths to Manchester are not yet cut off. With Amorim, who played alongside the star at international level, to arrive later this month, a remontada can’t be ruled out.

Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim,” Sheringham told FlashScore. “But, he is onto bigger and better things. I think that Ronaldo will follow in the path of David Beckham in doing things away from coaching, higher profile things around the world.”

Sheringham admits that, though the Portuguese legend would still have a home at Old Trafford, especially with compatriot Amorim due to touch down on November 11, the chances are that he will see out the end of his playing career elsewhere – and a switch to the dugout has also all been ruled out by the former United and Tottenham striker.

“I'm sure he'd be very, very welcome in any capacity coming back to the club,” Sheringham continued. “But, I doubt that he'll be a coach.”

Ronaldo mirrors such assumptions himself, revealing to his YouTube channel, UR, that he will likely turn his eye to business ventures rather than coaching badges. “For me, it will be difficult one day to be a coach because I don’t have passion for this generation.” Ronaldo stated.

“It’s difficult, especially in football, because they don’t take advice from our experience. They think they know everything; they think the phones will give you a good education, the TikTok, the Instagram.

"I have other things to worry about, another chapter of my life that is a business part that I'm excited about. It will be a challenge for me to learn other areas I don’t know be more involved in my business, and I think I will be good.”
