Erik ten Hag speaking after Fenerbahce vs Manchester United - he remains under pressure

Next Man Utd manager: Erik ten Hag replacements sounded out with FOUR managers highly fancied

Erik ten Hag has overseen another disappointing start to the season at Old Trafford, and while he insists Manchester United bosses and he are on the same page, they're continuing to look elsewhere

Manchester United are continuing to sound out potential successors to take over from manager Erik ten Hag.

United are unbeaten in their last four matches, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS team are still pursuing new targets - despite sticking with the Dutchman after a summit meeting during the international break.

Former Barcelona boss Xavi, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, ex-Borussia Dortmund chief Edin Terzic and Brentford’s Thomas Frank are all high on the Old Trafford hit-list. Ten Hag continues to insist he has the backing of his bosses.

But with United sitting 11th in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League table, the former Ajax coach remains under scrutiny.

Ten Hag needs to build on recent improvements - although United’s unbeaten run only includes one win. The Reds now face West Ham with injury crisis that has seen Antony joint an eight-man casualty list after damaging an ankle in the 1-1 draw at Fenerbahce on Thursday night.

Captain Bruno Fernandes is back from suspension and defender Jonny Evans will return at the London Stadium if he passes a fitness test. But Ten Hag admitted: “Injuries hold us back in our levels - and also in our position in the league. Because when you don't have the players available, you can't line up the best team.

“We need more players, often available - and we have to work all together on this point. That is the players, the coaching staff, all the other staff. We know when we have them we are a really tough team to play and we can be really successful.

“That is what we have shown over the last couple of months.”
