'Flattering' £55 Matalan coat 'almost identical' to £348 Lululemon version

The two coats look very similar but there's a huge price difference, saving shoppers more than £200

Matalan has released a new coat that bears a striking resemblance to a design by activewear brand Lululemon. Known for its affordable fashion, Matalan's Black Long Padded Coat shares many similarities with the Lululemon Wunder Puff Long Jacket, but at a fraction of the price.

Both coats feature similar padded designs, hoods, water-resistant outer shells, and a colour block design with a zip front. However, the Lululemon coat has the option to cinch the waist and features the brand's name on the cuffs and hood.

The Matalan version has pull strings near the hood, which the more expensive coat does not. It is also available in brown and khaki, while the Lululemon version comes in just black or white.

Matalan's product description reads: "Wrap up in elegance with our black long padded coat. Cut to a flattering elongated silhouette, this coat offers unparalleled warmth and style for the chilliest of days.

"The black colour ensures a versatile everyday wear while the padded feature ensures a warm wear in the cold months."

Lululemon's Wunder Puff Long Jacket carries a price tag of £348, while Matalan's Black Long Padded Coat comes in at £55. This means that shoppers could potentially save around £293 by opting for the high street alternative.

Alternatively, a number of other retailers stock similar padded coats too. Next has the Threadbare Longline Hooded Padded Coat for £50, while George at Asda has the Khaki Long Hooded Padded Coat on sale for £33.60, down from £42.

New Look also has the Black Hooded Longline Puffer Coat available for £85.99. The product racked up rave reviews, with one shopper saying: "Lovely quality, well padded and good length. Perfect for winter days."

Another wrote: "A very smart and comfortable purchase. When zipped all the up, it's like wearing a duvet and keeping you warm and snug.

"The zips at the bottom are perfect to help keep you cool if you do become too hot in this coat, as well as giving more movement and less restrictive."

However, one shopper claimed the jacket was not as padded as expected. They wrote: "This padded jacket is not padded well and very spacey in each part and will it keep you warm for long, I have returned this jacket due to the puffiness not that puffy!"
