Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has spoken out about his 'sore subject' with dance partner Katya Jones, following an on-air disagreement about Celebrity MasterChef

Strictly star Wynne Evans has spilled the beans on his dance partner Katya Jones' fiery retort to his ongoing jokes about Celebrity MasterChef.

The Welsh singing sensation, 52, who bagged the title of BBC's Celebrity MasterChef last year, has been having a laugh at Katya's expense over her less triumphant stint in the 2022 series.

Wynne admitted that mentioning the cookery show during practice sessions has become a bit of a touchy subject, but he can't help finding it hilarious.

In a chat with reporters, he shared his fondness for ribbing her about the culinary contest, quipping: "Well, that's a bit of a sore subject. Some people - Katya - didn't so brilliantly on MasterChef, so I try not to talk about it. I only mention it - I now restrict myself to doing it 10 times a day, saying that I actually won MasterChef."

Revealing Katya's sharp response, Wynne dished to Heat Magazine: "And, every time, she says, 'Yes, but I've won the Glitterball'. So, we've got one trophy each." Beyond the kitchen, the opera star has been impressing the Strictly judges with his moves.

Just recently, Wynne and Katya racked up an impressive 34 points for their Tango, landing them in joint second place on the leaderboard. But it's not all about the dancing; viewers were taken aback by an "inside joke" between the pair that was caught on camera.

Eagle-eyed Strictly viewers caught a curious exchange when Katya seemed to gently push away Wynne's hand from her hip with a grin, followed by what appeared to be her ignoring his high-five. Following some negative reaction and apparent discomfort displayed by the dancer, the pair came forward to set the record straight, affirming it was all in good fun.

On Strictly: It Takes Two, Katya addressed the buzz, emphasising: "I have to make this absolutely clear, that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night, it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke, yes, was it a bad joke, yes. Even the idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended in any way is total nonsense."

Wynne shared his regrets over the incident during his BBC Radio Wales show, revealing: "I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day.

"It's not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we're really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke. It was a stupid joke that went wrong, OK? We thought it was funny. It wasn't funny. It has been totally misinterpreted."

As per the BBC, a Strictly source noted that the series' welfare team had extended their support to both dancers, concluding no additional action was required.
