Erik ten Hag left sweating over fresh injury concern as Man Utd star sits out training

Manchester United were forced to do without Rasmus Hojlund in the opening weeks of the season due to injury - and it's now emerged that the striker has missed a training session with Denmark

Rasmus Hojlund is said to have sat out a Denmark training session on Sunday following his recent hamstring injury.

The Manchester United striker, 21, missed the start of the new Premier League season with the issue, which he picked up in pre-season. Hojlund was unavailable for United's first six games of the season before making his return against Crystal Palace last month.

Hojlund went on to feature two more times in the league before most of United's team jetted off for international duty - but his absence from training has caused alarm online.

According to Danish outlet Bold, Hojlund missed training on Sunday following the Danes defeat to Spain the previous night, where he featured as a second half substitute. It remains to be seen, though, if it was for anything sinister or just as a precaution.

Regardless, Hojlund's absence will have more than a few people at Old Trafford sweating. The Red Devils have sorely missed the former Atalanta man so far this season in the Premier League, where they have struggled for goals.

He recently admitted that he probably wasn't ready to play a full 90 minutes as he continues to manage his workload carefully following his injury, which occurred during a match against Arsenal back in July while the club were on their pre-season tour of the United States.

Hojlund said: “There is no point in rushing things and risking another injury. My body feels good again. I might be ready to play 90 minutes, but if I also use my brain a little bit, I don’t think 90 minutes on Saturday against Spain is a good idea.”

He went on to reveal that had lost some weight in his bid to return in top form, though his weight often fluctuates.

The striker added: “I’ve lost a little weight, but it doesn’t matter. I know there are some benefits to being a little lighter and some benefits to being a little heavier. I’m not focused on the scales. I’ve gotten used to the fact that my weight fluctuates a little bit.”

Manchester United will be hoping that Hojlund's absence on Sunday was just a precaution ahead of their crucial Premier League fixture with Brentford at Old Trafford on Sunday.
