David Beckham made an emotional final visit to Sweden for a goodbye meal with ex-England boss Sven Goran Eriksson before his death.

Eriksson passed away earlier this year, aged 76, after his battle with terminal cancer with tributes paid across the world of football. His life was celebrated in an Amazon Prime documentary with Sven delivering a final address to the camera.

"Thank you for everything, coaches, players, the crowds, it’s been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life," he said. Beckham was among those to feature in the documentary after travelling to Eriksson's home, having captained England during his managerial tenure.

In an extract from Eriksson's memoir, the former manager reflected on the meeting with his 'right-hand man', with Beckham paying a touching gesture. The former Manchester United and England star took his own private chef with him for the short stay, to rustle up some Swedish delicacy, including herring and elk meat.

"We had an extremely good relationship during my time with England, and Beckham is Beckham. He’s an incredibly fine person. Since I left that job, we’ve met now and again, and we talk regularly," Eriksson says in the memoir published by the Daily Mail.

"When I made my diagnosis public earlier this year, he called a few days later and said: ‘I’d like to come and visit you, if I may.’ Of course he could. He arrived in his private jet at Karlstad Airport, about an hour’s drive from my home.

"He brought with him his own chef – in fact he sent the chef one day ahead. The meal was herring and potatoes and elk meat, following my wishes. We had one aquavit, a Scandinavian spirit, each. It was a highly relaxing moment and I truly appreciated his visit.

"Of course we talked about football, but we also covered much more during David’s three-hour visit. What we said shall remain within us, and only us, as always between trainer and player."

Beckham returned to Sweden for Eriksson's funeral last month as he was laid to rest. He shared a clip of their final meeting on Instagram alongside an emotional tribute.

"We laughed, we cried and we knew we were saying goodbye. Sven thank you for always being the person you have always been, passionate, caring, calm and a true gentleman," he wrote.

"I will be forever grateful for you making me your captain but I will forever hold these last memories of this day with you and your family. Thank you Sven and in your last words to me ,'It will be ok'."
