The wait for Season 2 of Apple TV's hit thriller Severance has been a long one, with fans eagerly awaiting updates more about the second series. Today, the streamer has delivered.

The first season of Severance premiered back in 2022, introducing viewers to Lumon Industries, a dystopian workplace that subjects its employees to a surgical procedure that splits their consciousness into two.

The fictional procedure called 'severance' means employees have both a work self, colloquially referred to as an 'innie', and their personal self, known as an 'outie'. While at work the innie has no recollection of their life outside of the office, and at home, thoughts of work are impossible for the outie.

The show follows a core group of workers in the corporation's mysterious Macrodata Refinement department who begin to question their purpose and endeavour to discover who they really are on the outside. Adam Scott portrays conflicted company man Mark Scout, with the stellar cast also including Britt Lower as office disruptor Helly, and Zach Cherry as Dylan. Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette also star.

Fans were sent into a frenzy after a video titled 'Severance - Meeting Today' appeared on the streamer's official YouTube page on Tuesday (October 22), scheduled to go live at 2pm the next day. Speculation swirled that it would be the highly-anticipated Season 2 trailer and that's exactly what it was, giving fans the update they've been craving since 2022.

The teaser footage shows Adam Scott's character in a lift looking confused as dialogue from the first season plays. He enters his office to find his colleagues are completely different people as Seth Milchick (Tramell Tillman) approaches him with a bunch of blue balloons and says "Welcome back Markus, it's been a minute."

According to the official synopsis for Season 2: "Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe."

Sharing their initial reactions to the trailer, fans were thrown by the brand new colleagues in the office. "Surely the other cast is coming back there's no way," wrote one. Another questioned: "Where are the others?", while a third said: "This season is going to be even crazier than Season 1 AND I’M HERE FOR IT!".

Severance Season 2 will release on Apple TV on January 17, 2025
