Three-week-old baby boy killed in 'beyond heartbreaking' car crash as driver charged

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a three-week-old baby was killed in a horror crash.

Craig Nunn, 39, from Stockport, will appear in court next week following the tragedy, which left two adults hospitalised. It comes after police were called to reports of a crash on the A451 between Kidderminster and Stourport in Worcestershire.

West Mercia Police said the collision, which took place at around 12.09 am on Saturday, involved a black Ford Focus and a black Suzuki Vitara. The three-week-old infant, who was in the Suzuki, sadly passed away at the scene.

The two other people in the car were identified as a man and a woman in their 20s. The force confirmed that their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. It has been reported that the driver of the Ford Focus was unscathed in the incident.

Police are appealing for further information after the victim, a little boy, died at the scene. They said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses after a baby died following a collision on the A451 between Kidderminster and Stourport. Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from around the time it happened."

Inspector Steph Arrowsmith earlier addressed the "distressing" incident and said: "A young baby boy has tragically died and our thoughts are very much with the baby’s parents and wider family at this incredibly distressing time. A man has been arrested as our enquiries continue, and I would ask anyone who was on the A451 between Kidderminster and Stourport around the time of the collision to please get in contact with us."

In an updated statement, West Mercia Police said: "A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The charges are in relation to a collision on the A451 between Kidderminster and Stourport yesterday (Saturday 26 October), where a three-week-old baby sadly died. Craig Nunn, aged 39, of Sandy Lane, Stourport will appear at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on 28 October."

Locals paid tribute on Facebook and sent their well-wishes to the family. One person wrote: "Thoughts are with the parents at this absolutely heartbreaking time." Another said: "This is beyond heartbreaking. Sending love to the poor little one’s parents, his family and the emergency services who attended. Sleep tight little one."

A third person commented: "Absolutely heartbreaking to read this ..the poor mom and dad they must be traumatised. Rest in peace little angel."
