Erik ten Hag's six-word Leny Yoro injury update gives new timeline for Man Utd star

Leny Yoro broke a foot during pre-season and needed surgery but he is working towards fitness and Erik ten Hag is optimistic of a positive impact for Manchester United soon

Erik ten Hag has provided a positive update around Leny Yoro's recovery from a broken foot by simply saying: "Yes, he is doing very well."

The teenage defender cracked a metatarsal in a pre-season friendly appearance against Arsenal, having arrived in a summer transfer from Lille.

The injury required surgery and while an exact return date is not being pencilled in by United's medical staff, Ten Hag - who is again under pressure following recent results - is happy with how the French youngster’s rehabilitation programme is progressing.

Yoro, 18, was pictured putting some work in at Carrington earlier this week and, in an interview with club media, Ten Hag said: "It is very pleasing that his rehab is going in the right direction and I expect him soon, but what I mean by soon, is that he is now in the right planning process.

"He is in the right spot and he will return as soon as possible into the squad and then the team training."

Yoro sustained his injury in the same game that led to striker Rasmus Hojlund departing with an injury from which he has only recently recovered.

And United need the £72m forward to find his goalscoring boots soon.

United face Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon after a shock Europa League draw against Twente on Wednesday night having failed to score away to Crystal Palace last weekend.

Ten Hag has recognised that their lack of goalscoring is a problem that must be solved quickly.

United have scored a meagre five from their opening five Premier League games and three of those came in the win away to new boys Southampton.

“We have to score more goals," he said following the Twente draw. "That is the problem, the key area is to score more goals as a team. We have players across the team who have the ability to score, that is clear."

In addition to Yoro, United remain without full backs Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and centre half Victor Lindelof owing to injuries.
