Liam Payne and partner Kate Cassidy welcomed new family member a month before tragic death

It was announced last Wednesday evening that Liam Payne had died after falling from his hotel room balcony in Argentina

Liam Payne and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy adopted a dog from an animal shelter a month before the star's death.

Kate has been seen with the pooch as she went to buy some dog food in one of the first times she's been seen since her partner died. Liam passed away at the age of 31 last Wednesday after falling from his hotel room third floor balcony in Argentina.

Liam previously opened up about deciding to adopt the dog with Kate. He said: "I really love her. She is so cute. She is a tiny new member of the family for a while. We're going to foster her for a while and get her really nice for a loving family I think. But we might be the nice family."

Kate added: "We did a meet and greet with three different dogs and this one fit us best. She's so sweet. She's only four months old. She was abandoned by her previous owners and dumped at the shelter. We wanted to give her a second chance and a better life."

Liam was also the owner of another dog called Stan which fans have pointed out may be "confused" by Liam's passing. One wrote on social media: "I just can't stop thinking about Liam's little dog. He will never see him again. He's probably waiting for him to come home. It absolutely breaks my heart. None of this is fair."

Another agreed: "So sad for baby Stan. The two of them were such a duo. I can't believe any of this to be honest." "It seemed like Liam and his dog were inseparable. My heart breaks for that poor little dog. He's going to miss his dad so much," someone else added. A fourth fan added: "I really hope someone takes good care of Stan."

Liam's toxicology report findings so far showed traces of designer drug pink cocaine in his system. Final toxicology results are still pending and may not be made public for a few weeks. It is also not known what amount of the drugs were found in the body.

Materials extracted from the singer's body in an autopsy had "determined the presence of the class-A drug", according to respected news portal Infobae. ABC News claimed that among those substances was "pink cocaine", which contains a lethal mixture of drugs including MDMA, ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack.

Pink cocaine has become popular across Latin America's club scene as a hallucinogenic drug that can create an altered sense of reality. It contains a mixture of synthetic substances, including MDMA (ecstasy), ketamine, and amphetamines, while some variations contain LSD, mescaline, and opioids like fentanyl.
