Liam Payne had traces of cocaine in his body, forensic experts have discovered according to Argentine media reports.

Respected news portal Infobae said materials extracted from the singer’s body in an autopsy following his death last Wednesday had “determined the presence of the class-A drug.”

But it said police tests on a white powder found in his hotel room had so far proved “inconclusive". It reported the result of a second test using chromatography, a powerful analytical separation technique, on that powder were pending.

Liam’s dad Geoff is in Argentina to speed up the repatriation of his body but is understood to have been told he will not be able to fly it back to the UK until the 31-year-old’s death is confirmed “scientifically.”

No time frame has been given but he has been warned the wait could be up to two weeks. Police in Buenos Aires have yet to comment officially on the Infobae reports and it is not clear yet if they will do so.

Prosecutor Marcelo Roma, who has categorised Liam’s death at the Hotel CasaSur Palermo Hotel as “inconclusive” following his third-floor balcony plunge, has been sent all the results so far.

The One Direction star sadly fell to his death aged 31 on Wednesday last week in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It has emerged that Liam's body is likely to remain in Argentina for around 10 to 15 days, until the results of toxicological tests are known.

Once the investigation ends, the singer's remains will be handed over to his relatives and repatriated to England, according to local media reports.

It's claimed Liam had more than 20 injuries at the time of his death, with forensic experts determining that "the 25 injuries described in the autopsy are compatible with those caused by a fall from a height."

As more harrowing detail emerges, South American publication Merco Press has claimed investigators believe VIP drug dealers for the rich and famous played a part in the death.

Earlier reports suggest staff members of the Casa Sur Hotel are being investigated over claims they supplied the singer with drugs in the days before his death.

According to Daily Mail, a cleaner and another member of staff at the hotel allegedly hid the drugs in a Dove soap box, which was found by police. It has been reported that white powder residue, crystals, tablets and other forms of drug paraphernalia, were noticed in Liam's suite.

Police have reportedly sent the substances for tests, with claims said to suggest it appeared to be cocaine and crack cocaine. Hotel management were made aware of the questionable behaviour of the two staff members and according to the publication, a close friend Liam's said: "There were two guys at the hotel that were giving Liam drugs. They sent taxis out to collect packages for him. "

They added: "One of the guys was working in the cleaning department. After Liam died, they noticed that one taxi was sent to the cleaner's home address. The hotel manager asked him why the taxi had gone to his home and when he couldn't give an explanation he was fired. "

The source continued: "The cleaner and another member of staff have been interviewed by the police. Liam was doing everything to stay clean but as soon as he got to the hotel these people were offering him alcohol and drugs."

Liam had travelled to the country with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, to see his former bandmate Niall Horan in concert. He was reportedly forced to extend his trip to Argentina after his visa application to stay in the US was initially refused.
