One-time Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso returns to Anfield with his Bundesliga title winners Bayer Leverkusen, while Premier League champions Manchester City are in action against Portugal’s table toppers Sporting CP.
On Wednesday Arsenal travel to the San Siro to take on Inter Milan – the first time the Gunners have travelled there since their famous 5-0 victory over the Italian giants 21 years ago.
But currently sitting at the summit of the new 36-team Champions League table, after three games, are Aston Villa, and that’s where they’ll be hoping to remain after a trip to Belgium’s Club Brugge.

Sporting v Man City
Both sides remain undefeated in the Champions League heading into Tuesday night’s fixture at the Estádio José Alvalade.
Sporting recorded a 2-0 win at Lille in their opening match, before being held to a 1-1 draw at home against Dutch champions PSV. Their last outing in Europe was a 2-0 away win at SK Sturm Graz.
Meanwhile, City started with a goalless draw against Inter Milan, before thrashing Slovan Bratislava 4-0 in Slovakia and then Sparta Prague 5-0 at home.
Pep Guardiola’s side have won five of their past six away Champions League matches, four of those by a margin of at least two goals.

Liverpool v Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen arrive at Anfield sitting in sixth place in the Champions League table. Xabi Alonso’s side won their opening two games – against Feyenoord and AC Milan – before stumbling with a 1-1 draw against Brest.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool team have won all three of their opening UCL games so far, the most recent being a 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig.
The Reds are currently second in the table, level on points with Aston Villa and having scored six goals, but conceding one.

Club Brugge v Aston Villa
Aston Villa travel to the Jan Breydel Stadion for Wednesday’s showdown, having won all three of their opening UCL matches. That includes a 1-0 home win against European titans Bayern Munich.
Unai Emery's side have kept a clean sheet in each game so far and notched up an impressive six goals.
Club Brugge, meanwhile, have only managed one win in this season’s competition, and conceded in each of their past five Champions League matches.

Inter Milan v Arsenal
Arsenal take on the three-time European champions at the San Siro on Wednesday, with both sides yet to concede a goal in the competition.
After an opening 0-0 draw against Atalanta, Arsenal went on to register a 2-0 win against PSG and a 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.
Meanwhile, Inter boss Simone Inzaghi guided his side to a 0-0 draw against Manchester City before thumping Red Star Belgrade 4-0 at home, then notching up a slender 1-0 victory away at Swiss side BSC Young Boys.
Looking evenly matched, this fixture will be only the second time the two teams have met at the San Siro; the other occasion was way back in 2003.
