Paddy McGuinness has posted a heart-breaking text exchange with Liam Payne about sobriety.

The comedian took to his Instagram story to share a screenshot of messages between him and the One Direction star. Over the top of the text, Paddy wrote: "I really enjoyed the small amount of time I got to hang out with Liam. His messages were always open and honest.

"I could never comprehend that level of fame and attention? Let alone the effect it has on someone so young? Rest in peace young un." The screenshot showed Liam sending Paddy a message which read: "Course mate. I don't have many mates I can trust who know how I feel and since being sober I'm wanting to branch out more instead of hiding away."

Paddy's post comes after it was announced on Wednesday evening that Liam had passed away after falling from a third story balcony in Argentina. The singer fell to his death from the third-floor balcony into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires.

Authorities in Argentina have released information following his death, with reports indicating the musician "jumped from the balcony" of his hotel room in Argentina, plunging to his death. The occurred during his holiday in Buenos Aires, where he visited fellow One Directioner Niall Horan at his former bandmate's concert.

The forensic experts determined that "the 25 injuries described in the autopsy are compatible with those caused by a fall from a height." They added that Liam had no "defensive type" injuries and that the wounds on his body were "vital and produced at the same time as each other" saying that "the intervention of third parties would be ruled out," according to Argentinian outlet La Nacion.

Alberto Crescenti, who is the chief of Buenos Aires emergency medical services, said that Liam suffered an immediate death as a result of sustaining multiple injuries. He said: "Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life. Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death."

Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik released a joint statement following the news. They said: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."
