One Direction star Liam Payne, who died last week aged 31, had plans to marry his girlfriend in the next year, with Kate Cassidy taking to Instagram to share details of their final moments together

Late singer Liam Payne fans have rushed to thank Kate Cassidy for making him happy and 'keeping him safe' before his death.

The former One Direction star died aged 31 last week while holidaying in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His girlfriend was with him in the weeks leading up to his heartbreaking death but she flew back home to the US days before he fell from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel.

On Wednesday evening, Kate took to her Instagram page to share a lengthy tribute to the star and revealed to fans that he wrote her a note insisting the two would be getting married within a year. She said her 'heart is shattered in ways she couldn't put into words' as she detailed her grief.

Fans took to the comment section to rally behind her and thanked her for making him happy. One user said: "Thank you for keeping him safe for as long as you could. He loved you so deeply. I’m so sorry for yours and the worlds loss," while another posted: "Thank you for making him happy the way you do, stay strong, lots of love."

"Stay strong, Kate. Thank you for making him so happy this past two years. It was clear he was full of life and happiness in your presence. Thank you. Sending you lots of prayers, every single day," another commented. One user added: "Kate.. thank you for making him happy and loved. I think about you a lot and just know that we’re in this together and we’ll always be here for you cause you were always there for Liam… I’m sending you so much love and strength."

Sharing a series of photos of her and Liam, she revealed the couple were "manifesting" their lives together in the weeks before his death. The heartbroken woman revealed that Liam had written her a romantic note - which he asked her not to read - in which he said that they would get married within a year.

The note read: "Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever 444." The number 444 is considered an angel number, with special significance. She also shared a picture of the note for fans to see. Concluding her shattering post, Katie wrote: "I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go. Forever yours, Katelyn 444."
