Strictly star Wynne Evans’ ‘forced’ apology video sees Katya Jones give away tell-tale sign

Strictly Come Dancing fans were left wondering what had happened between Wynne Evans and his pro partner Katya when a clip of her looking uncomfortable during the episode was shared online

Body language expert Judi James has weighed in on Katya Jones and Wynne Evans’ apology video .

On Saturday night’s instalment of Strictly Come Dancing, the pair caused a stir when Wynne attempted to put his hand on Katya's waist, with her brushing it off.

The BBC stars have since broken their silence on the awkward moment in a social media video, insisting it was a “silly joke”. Katya said on Instagram this weekend: “Hello everybody it's Wynne and Katya here. We just wanted to say we were just messing around in the Clauditorium on Saturday night and just want to say sorry. It was a silly joke." Wynne added: "Yes sorry."

In the caption, Wynne added: "Apologies for this tonight we were just messing around. We really are amazing friends. The high 5's is a running joke. Have a great evening @katyajones."

However, speaking to Mirror Online about the interaction, Judi called Katya and Wynne’s interactions “odd” and “forced”. Interestingly, Judi also noted Katya appeared to have “clenched teeth” in the footage, which could suggest she was uncomfortable.

She explained: “Katya is [Strictly’s] most skilled masker. When she's been under pressure in past seasons, her already famous smile has widened and her energy levels have increased - rather than dimmed. Bravado and a will to win are her forte. Which is what makes these moments that are very obviously on camera so compelling and odd.”

Judi went on: “As Katya nods and smiles at Claudia, Wynne places a hand on her shoulder while his other inches round her waist. If you were being generous, you might suggest she didn't realise it was him, or that she'd previously spotted him scoffing some green room chocs and didn't want marks on her white dress.

“Their video apology does nothing to help, as why apologise to the viewer with chastened expressions? There's no signals of joking, or fun, or [a] relaxed, close friendship in this video either, like eye contact or shared chuckling. His smile looks forced and Katya ends with what look like clenched teeth.”

Fans made it clear they were left uncomfortable by the video, One viewer wrote: "Sorry guys, how is that a joke? Ok the refusal to do the high five and the eye roll, yep get that, but the hand slowly moving across Katya’s stomach, and her moving it away and looking seriously uncomfortable?? How is that a 'joke'?" Someone else questioned: "And the hand sliding across the waist? Was that a joke too?" Another added: "Please leave Strictly Come Dancing … you’re making your partner uncomfortable, not cool!!"

A fourth commented: "Well mate your body language and eye flicker tell another story. Used to being handsy with women clearly." Someone else added: "Yuck, watching his misappropriate touching your waist and stomach when it wasn't wanted is giving me creep vibes. And I am very rarely wrong. Just yuck."
