Erik ten Hag left sweating ahead of Man Utd vs Brentford as injury list hits double figures

Manchester United face Brentford when the Premier League resumes action this weekend and Erik ten Hag will be sweating over the fitness of a number of his stars including Manuel Ugarte

The international break has not served as a respite for Manchester United with Erik ten Hag left to sweat over the fitness status of even more of his Red Devils stars.

The Dutchman will have no shortage of injury concerns to consider for United's clash with the Brentford. The Bees will make the trip to Old Trafford looking to pile on to Ten Hag's misery, as United look to end a run of five winless games.

They may be forced to defeat Thomas Frank's team without summer signing Manuel Ugarte. The Uruguay international was forced off during his nation's draw with Ecuador and reportedly complained of muscle pain in his right thigh.

Ten Hag will hope that his stars who pulled out of international duty fare better in their recovery. Kobbie Mainoo pulled out of England's squad with a tight hamstring, Amad Diallo pulled out of Ivory Coast's squad due to illness and Alejandro Garnacho removed himself from Argentina's matches against Venezuela and Bolivia because of knee issues.

Noussair Mazraoui was also absent from Morocco's squad and faces an uncertain amount of time out of action. The full-back underwent a minor precautionary corrective procedure after experiencing heart palpitations.

That leaves United with Diogo Dalto as their only senior full-back with Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw still on the recovery trail. Speaking earlier this month, Ten Hag suggested Malacia still needed to step up to team training while Shaw could make his return following the international pause.

"We hope Luke can return after the international break quickly," said the 54-year-old. "I don't know if it's the first game, we're hoping for [it], but I can't, in this moment, tell this with 100 per cent security. But, yeah, from now on, we have two-and-a-half weeks to work to that point. And, shortly after, he'll be there."

United will also be without Harry Maguire after he hobbled off against Aston Villa. The central defender was ruled out for a number of weeks with a calf issue.

The 31-year-old joins Leny Yoro on the sidelines. The French youngster is expected to make his return next month after undergoing an operation for an injury picked up in pre-season.

A judgement will also be required on Mason Mount. The former Chelsea star was forced off against Tottenham in September after suffering a head injury and a knock during the defeat.
