Ex-Newcastle chief spotted at Premier League club after Amanda Staveley investment claims

Former Newcastle co-owners Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley left the club over the summer and the pair are already in talks to buy a stake in another Premier League side

Former Newcastle co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi was spotted attending Chelsea's win over Brighton, having sold his shares in the Magpies back in July.

Ghodoussi and his wife Amanda Staveley helped broker the Saudi Arabian takeover of Newcastle back in 2021 and took a 10 per cent share in the club. However, the couple announced their departure over the summer and sold their stake to the Saudis and the Reuben brothers.

And Ghodoussi was sat in the director's box at Stamford Bridge alongside Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali, club legend Frank Lampard and co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart as the Blues beat Brighton 4-2 over the weekend.

It comes after it emerged that Ghodoussi and Staveley are in advanced talks to buy a stake in another Premier League club. Mirror Football understands that the couple are set to purchase a sizeable number of billionaire Joe Lewis' shares in Tottenham, which are now held in a family trust.

"Amanda is serious about being involved with Spurs, and is hoping that an initial purchase can be completed within weeks," a source close to the deal said. Speaking after their Newcastle exit, Staveley admitted that she and her husband were open to investing in another club.

"My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn't always work out exactly how you want it to," Staveley told the Athletic back in July. "Nothing is going to replicate that.

"I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people and that can't change, but I didn't want to get in Newcastle's way. It's got to be about what's best for Newcastle. Mehrdad and I are keen to be hands-on.

"We're hard-working people, I love to be very busy and to engage and I love football. Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that's difficult. But it's possible.

"I don't know what my future holds, but you can never move on from the love I have for Newcastle and I would love to come back for matches. I'm a Geordie now. I'm a Yorkshire Geordie, but I will always have that chemistry and that love."
