Cole Palmer predicted four-goal heroics as Chelsea star's bold claim goes viral

Chelsea star Cole Palmer made history as he scored four first-half goals in the Blues' dramatic 4-2 win over Brighton and it has since emerged that he predicted the feat ahead of time

Cole Palmer scored all four goals as Chelsea beat Brighton 4-2 and footage has surfaced of the England international boldly predicting he would do just that.

Palmer has been in stunning form since making the move to Chelsea from Manchester City for £42.5million last summer, with the 22-year-old making 50 goal contributions in 51 games across all competitions.

Against Brighton, he made Premier League history as he became the first player to score four goals in the first half of a game. And Chelsea have since shared a video on social media showing Palmer backing himself to score four at some point this season.

In a clip from a photoshoot, Palmer is asked to hold up three fingers to signify him scoring a hattrick and he then asks the crew: "What about four?" Chelsea posted the clip with the caption: "Good job you asked, Cole!"

Blues boss Enzo Maresca, meanwhile, branded Palmer the "best in the Premier League" following his exploits against Brighton. "He scored four but he also could have scored two or three more," Maresca said.

"It's important he stays hungry, ambitious and I know him from many years ago with the under-23s at City and with the first team. What he was as a boy is exactly what he was three or four years ago.

"Goals, assists, best player of the Premier League – this doesn't change the way he is. He's a humble guy and for me it's the most important thing. He's a top player and today in football young players can change quick.

"Cole scores goals and never changes and this is the most important thing. He's a special player, he's a simple and humble guy. He doesn't need to tell people how good he is because you can see it clearly.

"We try to use Cole in that position (as a 10) because it's his best position. He can play as a false nine, as a nine, a winger, in the pocket, he's so good, Cole inside the pitch is where he’s best.
