Kris Finney, 31, missing in Tenerife for days as Foreign Office issues new statement

by · Manchester Evening News

UK officials have issued an update after a man from Ramsbottom flew to Tenerife and disappeared. Kris Finney jetted off to the Canary Island last Thursday morning (October 31).

The 31-year-old was due to meet up with a friend and reportedly contacted his mum to say he had arrived, but his phone was low on battery. He has not been heard from since.

In a statement issued this afternoon (November 4), the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed it was aware of Kris' disappearance. A spokesperson said: "We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Kris, an electrician, failed to contact the friend who he was due to meet in Tenerife. His auntie, Debbie Kenyon, told the Manchester Evening News that Kris last spoke to friends at around 9pm on Thursday.

He was known to be near the McDonald's at Playa de las Americas, the party resort in the south of Tenerife. He was understood to be staying at Casa Natalia, in the Armeñime area.

Debbie said: "He was going for a week away and meeting up with his friend. He flew out on Thursday morning last week.

"He arrived on Thursday afternoon. His mum got a text at 4pm from him, and that was the last we heard from him. According to some of his friends, they were speaking to him around 9pm that night.

"Since then, nobody has heard anything from him. He was supposed to meet up with his friend who is staying in a different hotel and never showed. We have phoned and sent texts that haven't delivered."

Kris is described as white, around 5ft 7ins tall, and with short, dark coloured hair. An appeal to find Kris has been shared on the Missing Persons Tenerife group on Facebook, with more than 10,000 members.

Debbie says the disappearance is out of character for Kris. "It was [Saturday] night that we got the call from one of his friends saying nobody had heard from him for days," she added.

"We've been trying to get hold of him and haven't been able to - it's not like Kris. He may sometimes not contact you for 12 to 18 hours but then he always reaches out. There was nothing we could do at that time of night.

"[On Sunday] we have found out the details about where he was staying and have been contacting police in Tenerife and also our local police. The Foreign Office have all the details.

"They have already rang his friend as part of enquiries and spoken to him and contacted his mum again." The Civil Guard in Spain has been approached for comment.
